It’s Official!  On Tuesday, October 30, 2018, Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver will come home to her native Essex County to honor HOMECorp and its 30 years of preserving, restoring and building affordable housing for Montclair residents.  Because a home changes everything.

Lt. Governor Oliver will deliver the keynote address at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, NJ, to over 200 guests hailing from the business, arts, nonprofit, financial services, real estate and community development sectors to discuss two platforms that are near and dear to her heart: 1. economic growth and 2. affordability.

(HOMECorp) was founded upon the core principles of supporting and encouraging diversity, economic growth and affordability,” says David Grill, President, Board of Trustees for HOMECorp.  “The Lt. Governor’s platforms align seamlessly with the mission of HOMECorp, which is to create and maintain housing that preserves economic diversity and ignites community revitalization while fostering financial empowerment.”

Lt. Governor Oliver is no stranger to Montclair. In 2003, she was elected to the NJ General Assembly and began her first term in 2004, representing District 34, which includes Montclair, East Orange, Orange, and Clifton, for a decade.

  • In addition to the Lt. Governor serving as keynote speaker, HOMECorp will honor the 30 Most Memorable Montclair Momentsthat havetaken placeover the past 30 years within the arts, entertainment, retail, fine dining, hospitality, economic development, business and nonprofit sectors, among others. HOMECorp will pay homage to these momentslive at its Tuesday, October30th Anniversary Celebration,taking place from 6 pm – 9pm at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, NJ.

Examples of Most Memorable Montclair Momentsinclude:

  • HOMECorp acquires first affordable rental property on historic Miller Street (1989)
  • Montclair State University opens Feliciano Center for Entrepreneurship (2012)
  • HOMECorp opens its first community garden, Dorothy’sGarden (1995)
  • Montclair Film opens (2010) followed by the critically-acclaimed Montclair Film Festival(2011)
  • HOMECorp breaks ground on Talbot Village(2015), a six-unit townhome complex (2015) built specifically for low and middle-income homebuyers
and closes on the last unit (July 2018).

For Montclair to truly thrive, all residents, whether renting or buying, must have access to quality affordable housing,” says Shelley Phillips, former President of the Board of Trustees and this year’s Celebration Committee Chair. “For 30 years, HOMECorp has been proudly fulfilling this mission for thousands of Montclair residents.”

In addition to the 30 Most Memorable Montclair Momentsfestivities, the Board of Trustees of HOMECorp will honor Pamela S. Scott, Executive Director, Partnersfor Health Foundation as Community Honoree; William Scott, Co-Chair, Montclair Housing Commission Advocacy Honoree and Chair, Montclair NAACP Housing Committee and Paul Sionas, Principal of Sionas Architecture, Corporate Honoree. Mr. Sionas, a longtime HOMECorp partner, designed the plans for Talbot Village, HOMECorp’s first foray into new construction.
